Operation PowerOff Disrupts Global DDoS-for-Hire Services

In a massive coordinated international effort dubbed “Operation PowerOff,” law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Europol, have successfully disrupted several prominent DDoS-for-hire (Distributed Denial of Service) platforms. These “booter” services allowed individuals to rent network stress-testing capabilities to launch crippling cyberattacks against websites and online services with little to no technical expertise.

The operation resulted in the seizure of critical infrastructure used by these services and the arrests of key individuals involved in their administration. This takedown represents a significant blow to the cybercrime ecosystem that enables low-barrier, high-impact disruptions.

How to check if you’re affected

While this operation is a proactive takedown of malicious services, if your organization frequently faces DDoS attacks, you may notice a temporary decrease in attack volume. Ensure your network defenses, including Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and DDoS mitigation services (like Cloudflare or AWS Shield), remain active and properly configured. Continue to monitor your network traffic for volumetric anomalies. No specific affected models or devices are tied to this action, but the services targeted any internet-facing infrastructure.
