The Czech car brand Škoda has warned customers that its online merchandise shop was hacked. Attackers gained access to the store and may have taken names, email addresses, and order history from affected accounts. Škoda has said it is working to secure the site and is notifying shoppers who may be at risk.
This kind of breach matters because your email address and purchase history can be used by scammers to craft convincing phishing emails — fake messages that look like they’re from Škoda asking you to “confirm” your details or make a payment. There is no need to panic, but a few quick steps now can prevent problems later.
How to check if you’re affected
Affected products include any account created on Škoda’s online merchandise store. If you have (or had) a Škoda shop account, treat your information as potentially exposed:
- Change your Škoda shop password if you still have an account, and change it anywhere else you used the same password.
- Watch your inbox for suspicious emails that look like they’re from Škoda, especially any asking you to click a link or enter payment details.
- Review recent bank or card statements for any unexpected charges.
